Approving the Global Geopark – Dong Van Karst Plateau – Ha Giang Province construction plan to the year 203007/06/2017

Recently, the Prime Minister signed the Decision No. 438 dated 7/4/2017, approving the planning of construction of Global geopark – Dong Van Karst Plateau, Ha Giang province up to 2030. The scope and scale of planning include 4 districts: Dong Van, Meo Vac, Yen Minh and Quan Ba, having a natural area of 232,606 ha. The population is about 283 thousand. Tourists, with current status of about 0.6 million travellers, is expected to reach 1 to 1.1 million travellers per year by 2030..

On the spatial development of space, development direction and management of Global geopark – Dong Van Karst Plateau with the regions: Geological heritage conservation; Nature reserve and biodiversity; area of sustainable development of natural resources; areas of protection of landscapes and places of interest; areas of urban development and tourist centers; The area of agricultural and forestry raw materials in association with hi-tech processing; areas for development of rural residential network; area of high quality pharmaceutical development.

Of which, the geological heritage conservation area is about 35,840 ha, delineated 139 existing geological heritage (international, national and local), allocated in the districts Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Dong Van and Cat Vac into 30 clusters of heritage.

The area of protected landscape, sceneries has a total area of 2,564 hectares, including landscape protection area Ma Pi Leng; Lung Cu flagpost relic protection area; Commune areas: Can Bien (Quan Ba district), Thai Phin Tung (Dong Van district).

In the above-mentioned areas, restrict the new construction, just improve the existing cultural and historical works. Upgrading and improving the infrastructure of rural residential areas in association with the production and development of ecotourism and homestay, ensuring that they do not adversely affect the natural landscape.

Regarding urban development, urban development shall play the role of a tourist center. Ensure linkage, sharing between intra-regional and regional and external areas. Improve the quality of social, technical and urban services, public spaces, community cultural activities for residents and tourists.

Focus on developing functional areas to meet the requirements of tourism development, commercial services. Preserve typical heritage values in urban areas. Upgrade the quality of infrastructure and services in traditional villages in urban areas for community tourism. Construction activities ensure no negative impact on the natural landscape and environment in urban areas.

The system of urban centers includes: Pho Bang town, Dong Van town (Dong Van district); Meo Vac town, Xin Cai town (Meo Vac district); Tam Son town, Quyet Tien town (Quan Ba district); Urban (type IV) Yen Minh, Mau Due town (Yen Minh district). Ensure the development orientation in terms of scale, characteristics and functions as required for development.

The master plan for the construction of four urban centers, including Dong Van town, a cultural and historical center; Meo Vac town – Center for science tourism, adventure and border trade; Yên Minh urban area – ecological tourism center, green urban area; Tam Son town – Center for tourism, entertainment.
