Responding to the launch of the Global Geopark Network Council (GGN) on celebrating the international day for disaster risk prevention and reduction (13/10/2017).

On October 9th 2017, the Dong Van Karst Plateau UNESCO Global Geopark held a propaganda day for disaster risk reduction for pupils of the Ethnic Minority Boarding School of Meo Vac District under the Dong Van karst plateau UNESCO Global Geopark. At the propaganda day, all staffs, teachers and pupils of  the Meo Vac Ethnic Minority Boarding School had a better understanding of the origins of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (13/10). It is considered as a way to encourage every citizen and government to take part in building more disaster resilient communities and nations, help them learn more types of disaster that can occur in the community and find better ways for preparedness of natural disasters risk reduction.

Accordingly, that natural disasters happen will directly affect to the sustainable socio-economic development and cause the increasing rate of hunger and poverty in many countries around the world. In response to them, Vietnam has been gradually establishing a system of comprehensive views and solutions to actively prevent, respond and make good the damage of natural disasters, storms and floods.

Attending the propaganda day, there were representatives of local authorities and over 600 staffs, teachers and pupils of Meo Vac Ethnic Minority Boarding School. Through this activity, it helps them have more knowledge of disaster risk prevention and reduction. It is the pupils of the boarding school who will be effective propagandists to help raise the local people’s awareness have a friendly attitude to nature, protect ecological environment and actively participate in the smallest activities such as: avoiding and limiting toxic substances and jointly protecting properties of the state and the people./.
