Lung Cam Hmong Cultural Village - Traditional Hmong Architecture

Lung Cam Hmong Cultural Village, located in Sa Phin Commune, is one of the representative cultural heritage sites of the Dong Van Karst Plateau UNESCO Global Geopark. The village lies peacefully in Sung La Valley, where the traditional architecture, customs, and long-established agricultural practices of the Hmong people have been preserved.
Most houses in the village are built in the traditional Hmong architectural style, featuring rammed-earth walls, yin-yang tile roofs, stone fences, and an open courtyard at the center of the house compound. This architectural style not only reflects traditional construction techniques but also demonstrates adaptation to the harsh climatic conditions of the karst plateau.
Among the architectural complex, the most notable structure is the ancient house of Mr. Mua Sua Pao. It was built in 1947 after Mua Sua Pao became the wealthiest person in the Sung La area, mainly through the opium trade. The house is currently owned by the Mua family. It was selected as the filming location for The Story of Pao, the winner of the Golden Kite Award presented by the Vietnam Cinema Association in 2005. In 2013, the house was restored and upgraded according to conservation principles, preserving its original architectural characteristics. It has since become a distinctive attraction associated with the culture, history, and daily life of the Hmong people on the Dong Van Karst Plateau. Near the house once stood a small cemetery for soldiers of the French Foreign Legion.
Today, alongside preserving their traditional architecture, the people of Lung Cam have developed community-based tourism, cultivated buckwheat flowers, and continued to safeguard their local cultural values, making the village a destination rich in the cultural identity of the northern highlands.
